My career in hairdressing started 20 years ago with Peter Mark where I gained a wonderful and knowledgeable training. After seven years I went on to work in other salons in Dublin. My hairdressing then brought me out of Dublin to Dunboyne, Co. Meath, where I worked in a busy salon for three years before buying the business and renaming it The Art of Hair.
It was a small but expanding area and we had a large clientele from the town and surrounding area. After ten years I sold the business and started freelance hairdressing, this coincided with me starting a family. Most of the clients from the Art of Hair still use our services and are delighted to have me call to their home. We also do a lot of work for Dunboyne Castle Hotel on a call out service for their guests.
In 2006 we were the hair stylists for "Operation Transformation" on the "Gerry Ryan Show" in conjunction with Lisa Fitzpatrick who was the style coach for the contestants. We really pulled off the catwalk show and gave them all great makeovers. It was a fantastic two days and wonderful fun. I had the help of another great stylist Audrey Byrne of The Hair Layer in Drumcondra. Audrey also does weddings and corporate events with me and is a valued member of the team. We both specialise in all aspects of hairdressing, so, if its a colour, perm, easimeche or just simply a blow dry, we cater for everything.
During my time as a salon owner I trained in Barcelona with a company called Lakme and went on to be their technical consultant for Ireland. In the last twelve months a new product to the Irish market called Alterego was launched. Dermot Deegan Cosmetics were appointed as the Irish agent and they approached me with a view to me becoming their technical consultant. I accepted and was trained by Alterego's technical team, and happily we have gone from strength to strength. I now do all the sales demonstrations and product launches for Dermot Deegan and Alterego.
Every week is full of surprises for me, from wedding parties, fashion shows or salon demonstrations, but our passion is hairdressing and that's why you can be guaranteed a quality service when you call us.
Even my hobbie with the local musical society means I get called for hair and make-up!
The biggest challenge was transforming contestants in a Stars in their Eyes competition run by SMMS. It was a pleasure to give my expertise to this fund raiser for the past two years. We transformed everyone from Beth Midler to Elvis.
Other shows we have done hairs for include West Side Story, The Music Man, Mack and Mable, Bugsy Malone for Athboy Secondary School, Joseph for Navan Youth Musical Society and The Lion King for Broadway and Back at the National Concert Hall.
Regards,
Carolyn Clinton.
